When it comes to mid-sized SUVs, drivers want something that will allow them to take part in daily life, but also have that opportunity to go out and explore the hills and valleys of the great outdoors. The Jeep does this just right with the Cherokee as it combines sophisticated elegance with a tough exterior. Discover which special features make the 2019 Jeep Cherokee the ideal companion for the outdoorsy executive.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
While Jeep hasn’t done much to the exterior of the Cherokee in the last decade, especially that formidable grille, it has taken on a much sleeker, rounded shape. Drivers can choose between six trims which start off with the base model, which is the Latitude and has a starting MSRP of $24,195. The other trim levels are the Latitude Plus, Altitude, Trailhawk, Limited, and Overland. The Overland has a starting MSRP of $36,275.
Once again Jeep drivers are spoiled for choice and in this case, the option of three engines. The first option is a 2.0-liter I4 DOHC DI turbo engine which is an optional engine for all trims bar the Latitude. The Latitude, Latitude Plus, and Altitude have a 2.4-liter I4 MultiAir engine as standard. The final option is a 3.2-liter V-6 24-valve VVT engine which is the standard option for the Trailhawk, Limited, and Overland. All three engines are paired up with a 9-speed automatic transmission, however, there are a few extra features to the higher-end trims.
There are some impressive performance figures from all three engines, starting with 270 horsepower and 294 pound-feet of torque from the 2.0-liter engine. Drivers can expect 184 horsepower and 171 pounds-feet of torque from the 2.4-liter and 271 horsepower from the 3.2-liter. The 3.2-liter also pushes out 239 pound-feet of torque.
Passengers are enveloped in both luxury and convenience with an elegant leather interior trim on the higher-end models. Technology also plays a big part and passengers have access to Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto to start off the road trip.
Navigation is simple with the Uconnect 4 with a 7-inch display on the lower trims, and the Uconnect 4 with an 8.4-inch display for the higher-end trims. The Overland also features a 5-year subscription to SiriusXM travel link and traffic services. The SiriusXM satellite radio system is standard in all models except the Latitude, where it’s options.
Safe cushioning is one of the top safety features in the Cherokee, as a number of strategically placed air bags protect passengers in the event of a collision. Blind-spot and cross-path detection is a standard feature across the range, except in the Latitude. For adverse road conditions, the all-speed traction control and electronic stability control are bolstered by the electronic roll mitigation.
The Overland also features a full speed collision warning with crash mitigation and the LaneSense lane departure warning. The ParkView rear back up camera is an essential feature in an SUV this size and the enhanced accident response system a welcome addition.
