Why are tires in good condition important?

No matter what make, model, or year vehicle you drive, whether it be a Dodge Durango or a Jeep Cherokee, its four tires and their condition is incredibly important to your safety. Your vehicle’s tires are the only contact it makes with the road, directing where you want to go, gripping the road for traction, and absorbing all the bumps and dips the road has to offer. If your tires’ tread is too worn out or they are not properly inflated, they cannot properly do their job resulting in dangerous situations.

Should I rotate my tires?

The easy answer is yes! Rotating your tires helps them last longer. As each of your four tires wears at very different rates because of their position, rotating helps them wear more evenly. There are a variety of tire rotation patterns for mechanics to follow, but one of the most popular is to move the front wheels to the rear and the rear wheels to the front while swapping the side they are on. For example, the right front tire will move to the left rear side. When you decide to skip a tire rotation and drive a front-wheel-drive vehicle, the front tires will start to wear faster than the rear tires causing balancing and handling issues.

When should I get my tires aligned?

If your vehicle needs a tires alignment, your tires will tell you. There are a few things to look out for including uneven tire wear, your vehicle pulling to the right or left, and your steering wheel vibrates. You will start to notice the tire wear before anything else but you may also notice the pulling and vibrating first if you are not checking your tires’ tread often. The alignment will adjust the angles of the tires to ensure that they make proper contact with the road. Three things that technicians look for are the camber which is the inward or outward angle of the tire when looked at from the front of the vehicle, the toe which is the extent to which the tires turn inward or outward when looked at from above, and caster which is the angle that helps deliver stability, steering, and cornering.
