2022 Jeep Gladiator vs Ford Ranger

Jeep and Ford have been going back and forth forever, and now they are going head to head in the pickup truck market. The 2022 Jeep Gladiator and the Ford Ranger are two of the most impressive pickups on the market thanks to their terrific engine options, solid towing and hauling capabilities, and gorgeous-looking interiors. Either one of these pickups would make a tremendous addition to your driveway, but there is one that has a distinct advantage over the other. To find out which one comes out on top, check out our comparison down below!

2022 Jeep Gladiator Power & Handling

There are a couple of engine options available for the Gladiator, and one of them is a spectacular diesel! The standard engine is a 3.6-liter V6 that pumps out an outstanding 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque which connects to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. Most trims will have an option of a diesel-powered and turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that will get you 260 horsepower and a spectacular 442 lb-ft of torque. This engine pairs exclusively with the eight-speed automatic transmission. All versions of the Gladiator come with a 5-foot bed and standard four-wheel-drive. Those looking to haul around a ton of material will love the Gladiator as it will tow 7,650 pounds with a payload capacity of 1,700 pounds.

2022 Ford Ranger Power & Handling

The Ranger tries to hold its own with the Gladiator, but with the lack of a diesel option, it can’t compare. There is only one engine option here, and it’s a 2.3-liter four-cylinder that gets you up to 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque which pairs with an automatic transmission. Power is sent to the rear wheels, but four-wheel-drive is available for a little more added traction. The towing prowess for the Ranger is fine as it can haul as much as 7,500 pounds, which is less than the Gladiator.

2022 Jeep Gladiator Features & Design

On top of all the Gladiator’s power, there are four trim levels available that come with a massive amount of tech, luxury, and performance items. The base trim is the Sport which comes standard with cruise control, a manually adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, an eight-speaker audio system, a 5-inch central display with voice control capability, a standard soft folding top, removable doors, and a fold-down front windshield. If you’re feeling adventurous, we recommend the Overland trim, which comes standard with automatic headlights, power windows, heated power mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a 7-inch central display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Seeing as how the Gladiator is a Jeep vehicle, it has a superior off-road capability that comes via the Rubicon trim, which has a 4.10 rear axle ratio, 33-inch all-terrain tires, fenders with increased clearance, FOX shock absorbers, locking front and rear differentials body-protecting rock rails, and skid plates. The last trim is the Mojave which cruises the desert with a reinforced frame, FOX internal bypass shock absorbers, and Desert Rated badge.

2022 Ford Ranger Features & Design

The Ranger has three trim levels and comes with some interesting features in its own right. The base trim level is the XL which gets you 16-inch steel wheels, a manually locking tailgate, air conditioning, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a wi-fi hotspot. Several packages are available for the XL, and one is the 101A package which comes with cruise control, power mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, and Ford’s Sync 3 system. The next available trim is the XLT which adds to the mix with alloy wheels, keyless entry, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additional items for the XLT are available in packages as you can get a leather-wrapped steering wheel, remote ignition, power-folding mirrors, front parking sensors, navigation, and adaptive cruise control. At the top of the trim mountain is the Lariat trim, which rounds things out with LED headlights and leather upholstery.

Conclusion:

Though the Ranger puts up a fight, it can’t compete with what the Gladiator offers! The Gladiator has two outstanding engines, tons of amazing features, and an off-road capability that the Ranger can’t compete with. We highly recommend taking a test drive of the 2021 Ranger by heading down to Pinckney Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM and scheduling one with our knowledgeable and friendly sales team members who can even accompany you on the test drive so you can enjoy all of the features.
