2022 Jeep Compass vs Chevy Trailblazer

As model years pass us by, the crossover SUV class seems to expand further and further, becoming one of the most popular classes in the automotive industry. Designed to combine the agility of a sedan with the size and space of an SUV, a crossover SUV is a perfect choice for drivers from all walks of life. One model has remained a top competitor in the class for over a decade. The Jeep Compass delivers agility and space on top of Jeep’s legendary on and off-road capabilities. A formidable contender for the Compass is the Chevy Trailblazer. Continue reading below to learn more about these two models to help you decide!

2022 Jeep Compass Power & Handling

Powering the Compass is Jeep’s Tigershark 2.4-liter inline-4 cylinder engine that delivers 177 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque. While the Sport and Latitude trims deliver the power to the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission, all the following trims use a 9-speed automatic transmission to power Jeep’s Active Drive 4×4 system. Active Drive functions by driving the front wheels under ideal driving conditions. When road or weather conditions become less than ideal and traction becomes difficult, the system will automatically engage the rear wheels, seamlessly shifting to four-wheel drive to regain and maintain traction.

2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer Power & Handling

The 2022 Trailblazer employs a 1.2L turbocharged I-4 engine that only delivers 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. Mated to this engine is a continuously variable transmission driving the front wheels. If those numbers are less than attractive, then the 1.3L turbocharged I-4 bumps the horsepower up to 155 and the torque up to 174. While the 1.3L engine is optional for the lineup, it comes standard on the top-level RS trim. The 1.3L engine comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission to replace the CVT. While front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is optional only for the 1.3L engine.

2022 Jeep Compass Features & Design

Jeep’s design team gave the Compass a complete makeover ahead of the 2022 model year, keeping the most loved features while adding upgraded front and rear fascias and a refreshed interior. The front end was made taller and wider, giving the Compass a bolder, more commanding road presence. The iconic seven-slot grille is flanked by newly standard LED headlights. More of the Compass’ exterior features include 16-inch alloy wheels, heated power side mirrors, trapezoidal fender flares, a proximity key, and perimeter/approach lights. Inside the redesigned Compass, you’ll find premium cloth upholstery, auto up/down front windows, an 8.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, push-button ignition, a full suite of driver assists, a 4.2-inch digital driver information display, and a redesigned, more intuitive center stack. Higher trim levels add things like cornering LED fog lights, 17, 18, or 19-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, navigation, a 7 or 10.25-inch digital driver information display, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and LED interior lighting.

2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer Features & Design

The Chevy Trailblazer is designed to look intimidating and aggressive, a look that Chevrolet pulls off well. This confident road presence is brought on by slim headlight housings on either side of the tall and narrow grille. A few other exterior features include active grille shutters, 17-inch alloy wheels, halogen headlights, and power-adjustable side mirrors. Upon entering the Trailblazer, you’ll find a urethane steering wheel, cloth upholstery, a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 3.5-inch digital driver information display. Higher trim levels of the Trailblazer add things like LED exterior lighting, fog lights, a proximity key, push-button start, simulated leather upholstery, an 8-inch touchscreen, and heated front seats. The RS trim comes exclusively standard with bold black accents, red RS badging, the 1.3L engine, and all-wheel drive.
