2021 Jeep Cherokee vs 2021 Chevy Traverse

Buying a new SUV can get extremely difficult due to the sheer number of SUV out on the market. You will probably ask yourself many questions like which one is best for my family and which one has the most power and features. Well, we are here to help you make your selection a little easier by comparing two of the best SUVs on the market in the 2021 Jeep Cherokee and the 2021 Chevy Traverse. Both of these SUVs would make terrific additions to your driveway, but which one is better? Continue reading as we compare both of these SUVs and see which one comes out on top!

2021 Jeep Cherokee Power & Handling

There are three engine options available for the Jeep Cherokee, and each one provides drivers with an impressive amount of power. Standard on the first three trims is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that makes 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. When you reach the Latitude Lux trim, you get the option of either a 3.2-liter V6 with 271 horsepower or a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that provides you with 270 horsepower and an impressive 295 lb-ft of torque. Most Cherokees come standard with front-wheel-drive but do offer four-wheel-drive as an option. The Trailhawk comes standard with four-wheel-drive. A nine-speed automatic transmission is standard across the board.

2021 Chevrolet Traverse Power & Handling

Only one engine is available for the Chevy Traverse, but it is a welcome 3.6-liter V6 that provides you 266 lb-ft of torque. While this is an impressive number, we would be remiss if we didn’t point out it’s less than the 295 lb-ft of torque that the Cherokee’s turbocharged four-cylinder offers. Like the Cherokee, the Traverse comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive. The Traverse gives you an all-wheel-drive option, but it’s not offered on the base L. The Cherokee offers four-wheel-drive on all trims.

2021 Jeep Cherokee Features & Design

There are five trim levels available for the Jeep Cherokee and each has a ton of terrific features. Starting things off is the Latitude, which comes with power front windows, exterior mirrors with a heating element, supplemental turn signals, courtesy lamps, a rearview camera, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Stepping up to the Latitude Plus adds to this with heated front seats, premium-wrapped heated steering wheel, remote start, keyless entry, and push-button start. New to the Cherokee lineup is the Latitude Lux trim, which provides you with more luxury items such as Nappa leather seats, power front seats with power lumbar adjuster, and a windshield wiper de-icer. Off-road fans will love the Trailhawk trim, an advanced all-wheel-drive system, wider wheels, all-terrain tires, and increased ground clearance. The Limited trim rounds things our with leather upholstery, an upgraded driver display in the gauge cluster, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen.

2021 Chevrolet Traverse Features & Design

Seven trim are available for the Chevy Traverse, and there are some interesting features on every trim. Starting things is the L trim, which comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, heated outside mirrors, cloth upholstery, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The LT Cloth trims add to this with foglights, roof rails, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The LT Leather trim has heated front seats, a remote engine start, an 8-inch touchscreen, and rear parking sensors. Higher trims of the Traverse bring consumers a heated steering wheel, 20-inch dark finishing wheels, ventilated front seats, wireless device charging, a hands-free liftgate, and a panoramic sunroof. Like the Cherokee, the Traverse has quite a few safety systems available.

While there are merits to both of these SUVs, the Chevy Traverse can’t quite compete with the Jeep Cherokee. The Cherokee has more engine options and more features when you stack these two SUVs against each other.
